Wot's the Nerdy Sci-Fi Movie I Luv?

To Brad on WCCO radio (830 AM) --

Batteries not included by Steven Spielberg and starring husband and wife team Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy (originally started out in the Twin Cities theater scene as I recall). I guess I liked this one better than Little Shop of Horrors because it was in color and the fact that it was done in 1987 makes it slightly more contemporary than those old black and white clinkers. One review I read classified it as "Capra meets Spielberg", which I think is an apt description. So, Mr. Walton, please add this one to your newly conceived list! Great listening tonight as you had a couple good callers respond to your query about the title. I'll stay tuned to your blog to see what comes out of all this. Plus check out this web site for more info and the actual trailer for the BNI movie, if interested:

My favorite comedy flick was Where's Poppa? with Ruth Gordon as the somewhat gone widower. Do you remember that one? I just about busted my gut watching that one at the theater. It also had the Meathead from Archie's Bunker (All in the Family) who swore in the dog who raised his paw, and went on to become a great producer of some really classic films of recent note. Hilarious! George Segal was the son, and he also played banjo regularly on the Carson show. Another favorite was the one with Michael Keaton and Peter Boyle who escape from a sheltered home life, but I don't recall the name of it. Great stuff!
